candy filled voodoo dollsA few years ago, I found myself at a new job, in a new city, trying to make new friends.  I reported directly to the Vice-President over the American Offices.  He seemed like the fun-loving type, and in an effort to show that not only was I dedicated to my job, but also to adding to the spirit of fun around the office, I decided that I would do something that would really stir things up and get some interaction going amongst the team at the office.

Well, Halloween was coming up.  I knew there would be a Halloween party with chili cook off and other fun stuff, so I decided this would be the right time to pull my prank.  After giving it long thought, I decided that the best thing to do would be something so extra-ordinary and unheard of that there would be no chance that someone else would do the same thing.  Out of all of the ideas I had, I became fixated on one in particular – a voodoo doll!

I was determined, however, that this voodoo doll would be a fun voodoo doll.  So, to help lighten the mood, I made the voodoo doll, cut an incision along its chest and belly, filled it with candy and gum, then sewed it back up.  It looked GREAT!  I added a message – “Happy Halloween!” and burned the edges of the paper so it looked nice and distressed.  Then the actual presentation of the voodoo doll.  How would I present it, so that it was appealing and fun?  I found a box, roughed it up a bit, burned the edges, scratched it, and made it look like it had been buried for a long time!  I put some dried out leaves in the box, laid the candy-filled voodoo doll on top of that, put the message on top of that, and then closed the box top.  I wrapped it with black ribbon.  It was perfect!  I liked it so much, I decided to make one for his secretary, too!

I got there early on Halloween morning and laid the “gifts” on each of their desks.  I barely got any work done that morning as I waited for them to arrive.  Then I heard it.  The first exclamation of surprise and thrill of the treat!  The secretary ran into the VP’s office where they both let out a loud laugh!  They were dying to know who had tricked them with such a great treat.  Everyone else was jealous – they wanted one, too.  Those two voodoo dolls were the hit of the office!

Those two voodoo dolls started it all.  For years after and at various jobs later, I continued to make the dolls.  At first I delivered to only a few people, but then expanded to everyone in the office.  They were such a hit!  People started asking if I’d make them for their family members and friends.  At that point, I decided it was time to get serious about these great dolls!

There you have it – the story of how it all began.  I hope that as you order dolls for your employees, colleagues, friends and family that you have a great experience, too!  I have heard back from hundreds of people over the years at how happy they were with their gift!  I’d love to hear back from you, too!
